String group to perform at St Bart's

A highly acclaimed string group is returning to perform at St.Bartholomew's Church on Thursday, 17th March.

The Academy of St. Peter's String Orchestra will be led by Louise Latham who was a member of the BBC Philharmonic for six years before commencing a busy freelance career which has included working with the Hallé, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Northern Chamber Orchestras.

They will perform a concert of music by Handel, Respighi and Nielsen, which will feature Handel's well loved organ concerto "The Cuckoo and the Nightingale".

The concert also includes one of Ottorino Respighi's Suites of Ancient Airs and Dances and the third work in the concert is by the Danish composer Carl August Nielsen who composed the Suite for String Orchestra in 1887 when he was only 22.

The organ soloist will be RNCM graduate Philip Underwood who is the organist and director of music at the church.

The concert starts commences at 11.45am. Admission is free and there will be a retiring collection in aid of Oscar the church organ.
