Responsive website replaces wilmslow.co.uk app

As many of our readers will know, two years ago we launched our responsive website, which means that it automatically adapts to the screen size of the device you are using.

Responsive sites provide a better user experience whether you are visiting via a smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer which is very important as 65% of visits to wilmslow.co.uk now take place on handheld devices.

With the launch of the responsive website this meant there was no need to use the wilmslow.co.uk app, parts of which have not been updated in the past two years. However some of our users have continued to view the site via the app.

Therefore this article is a gentle reminder that wilmslow.co.uk is best viewed via the unified responsive website, irrespective of device, as this provides mobile users with the same convenient access to all articles, past and present, features such as full photo galleries and the ability to comment - which are not available via the app.

Add wilmslow.co.uk to your home screen.

If you would like access to wilmslow.co.uk via the screen of your phone all you need to do is go to the safari browser and type wilmslow.co.uk into the bar. Once you are on the website, click on the action symbol at the bottom of the page, which is a square with an arrow pointing up. Then click on the 'Add to Home Screen' button and then click on 'Add'. This will put a wilmslow button on your home screen in the same way that an app does.

I'm sorry to say this is probably a bad decision. It might explain why the app hasn't shown any news items since late last week. I use my iPad, as does my wife using her own, extensively and we both use the Wilmslow App for news, weather and events. It is infinitely less likely that we will use the browser to look up the website and that will inevitably lead to less usage. A great shame as it is a valued service. Are we alone?

Hi Andrew, if you follow the three steps detailed above then you will have a button on the home screen of your iPad for the responsive wilmslow.co.uk website, which appears in exactly the same way that an app does.

There is no need for you to use the browser each time you want to visit wilmslow.co.uk you just click on the button as you did the app.

This will provide you with access to all the articles, not just the last two weeks, and enable you to view the photo galleries and comment if you wish - features which were not available on the app.

If you have any problems putting wilmslow.co.uk on the home screen of your iPad drop me an email . Kind Regards Lisa
