A Year 6 pupil at Pownall Hall School has been selected to play the lead role in the award-winning musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in London's West End.
Joe Butler-Smith, 10, started rehearsing this week for the part of Charlie Bucket. He will be rehearsing for around four or five weeks before starting performances towards the end of October, until mid May next year.
Joe started acting in school plays when he was six and singing lessons when he was seven but this is his first role - apart from performances in school plays and local festivals.
Joe's mum Amanda said "It is very exciting for Joe to have the chance to play such a well known character in a fantastic production. He can't wait to get started!"
