A plaintive plea from the forgotten residents on Kitty Corridor

Hello, my name is Poppy and I am just over 10 years old. I have been asked as the only girl in my 'Special' gang of three to write an open letter in the hope that we will have a home by Christmas. Garfield, Capt'n Tom and I have lived at the sanctuary for most of this year. Whilst we come from different backgrounds, we find ourselves in the same position of being overlooked for adoption because we do not possess the instant 'cuddle' factor that so many homes want. This is not our fault and doesn't make us for being bad pets; we are just a little defensive and just need a little time to trust again. If you had been hurt or neglected you would feel the same wouldn't you?

I lived all my life as a house cat but had very little interaction with anyone in my home so it has taken time to adjust and learn to enjoy what a kind stroke and a tickle can be like – and it is good! I would like a home that could offer me the time to settle. In return I will love you unconditionally. My friends Captain Tom and Garfield are way more outgoing than me but need a home just as much. Both are about 7 years old years old and have lots of energy and love to chat. Both have had their share of living rough, with poor Tom finding his way here with a broken jaw after being hit by a car. He is now fine, all healed up and raring to find his new home, in fact if he had a suitcase it would be packed ready to go! He is a character and a real 'moggy' who would get along in a child-free home or where there are older children. He loves attention but due to looking out for himself whilst homeless, he can get a little 'angsty' once he has had enough.

Garfield was also rescued from a life on the streets, not that you would know it when you see him. He is a handsome ginger lad with a wide animated face and green eyes who as soon as he hears we have visitors will sit by his door meowing for attention, hoping it is his new family coming to take him home. Like a typical feline, he can sometimes be a little aloof but if he is in the mood to be friendly he will really show it and just wants to be a really loyal companion. Although sociable, he would prefer a home all to himself.

No one is perfect and just like you, we have trust issues that have stopped us from finding a home when that would be the cure we are waiting for. So, please don't pass us by when you next come and visit, we would love the chance to say hello.

Lots of love,

Poppy, Capt'n Tom & Garfield xxx
