A traditional pub in Wilmslow town centre has closed this week.

An announcement on Facebook said "The Swan will cease trading on Wednesday 24 September and will remain closed for the foreseeable future.

"We would like to thank our customers for their support over the years. Its been emotional."

Workmen were on site today, Friday 26th September, boarding up the windows.

I don't know how it has managed to stagger on for so many years. No doubt this historic Wilmslow building will be flattened- it has a huge car park and is ripe for development by you know who.

Perhaps Pete & Nick have a pragmatic and ingenious idea for this site? Bearing in mind the plethora of vacant premises readily available in wilmslow?

They both seem to be against any sort of residential development anywhere so let's all await their genius idea for such a site? Maybe you both could back your ideas with your hard cash?

No surprise there. With such excellent real ales available at The Old Dancer and Bollin Fee, it really was outclassed. I just hope the building survives.

I hope that the building remains there & some other bar opens it back up. I have enjoyed lots of great nights out there over the past thirty years!!

i hope the place reopens as an old time public house ,the problem is the smoking ban its killed off more pubs than anything else the smoking carry on should have been left to the landlords discretion and to make a room avalable for none smokers??? by the way i am a non smoker

Hopefully no overnight or weekend demolition. If so the maybe our brilliant council will this time compulsory purchase the empty brownfield site with no planning permission and use it for a bus terminus and a couple of shops. Previous opportunities include the old police station (same demolition method same use) and The Royal Oak in Alderley Edge where the "much needed" car park could have been placed instead of evicting allotment holders!!
Please no town centre flats with occupants then complaining about the noise all the commercial operations cause.

I sent an email to Spirit Group asking if the building was going to be sold. The following is a response from the Head of Estates Development

"The Swan is just between tenants and is not for sale."
