Cub group in urgent need of leader

The popular 1st Wilmslow Cub group, based at the Carnival Fields Scout Hut, is in urgent need of new leaders. The current leader Tim Smith will be stepping down this summer after successfully running the group for a number of years. Currently ten cubs, aged between eight and ten, enjoy the packed programme that Tim, parent helpers and his gold Duke of Edinburgh award volunteer Alex Mayo offer each week.

Tim said "I've really enjoyed running Cubs whilst my own boys have been growing up. It has been a way of sharing my love of the outdoors and building practical skills. The annual programme of events is established now so it would be relatively easy for others to pick up the reins. However it would be a huge loss if we can't find leaders to enable Cubs to carry on."

The Cubs meet on Tuesdays at Carnival Fields Scout Hut and enjoy games, skill and team building sessions as well as outdoor fun including cooking on camp fires.

One cub aged 9, said "I love coming here. It's a place to have fun with your local friends and learn new things."

The Cubs are urgently looking to attract one or more leaders to ensure that its stimulating programme of events can continue to run from September.

Sally Walker, Chair of 1st Wilmslow said, "We are sure there are people in the local community who may be looking for an opportunity to give something back or who perhaps have fond memories of their own Scouting days with a little time to offer. There is a committed group of parents and teenage volunteers who would support the Leaders but we just need one or two people who can team together to run meetings on a regular basis. It is very rewarding as the boys obviously gain a great deal from being part of Cubs. We think it is really important that children develop outside interests and skills as a balance to computer games and TV screens!"

If you are interested in finding out more about the role of Cub Leader, no previous scouting experience required as all necessary training provided, then please contact Sally Walker on 01625 533277 or Iain Macintosh on 07905 665271.
