This summer sees some amazing sporting tournaments in the UK from the Commonwealth Games, Wimbledon and the Tour de France coming to England for the first time. Children everywhere will be inspired to dream big and aspire to be a sporting star.

There are some athletes who may not be able to access our services financially or are unaware that help is on offer to assist them in achieving their sporting dreams. We are offering one athlete who lives within 10 miles of Alderley Edge the opportunity to become our first Physiofit sponsored athlete in our "Search for a star" campaign.

Physiofit in Alderley Edge has a reputation for developing young athletes with many going on to represent their country in their chosen sport. Director of Physiofit, Angie Jackson's own children have both been through the process and have both been selected to represent their country. These children were lucky in having parents who knew what was on offer to help their children reach their potential and more importantly were in a position to be able to afford it.

Angie Jackson was herself an aspiring young tennis player and remembers well the sponsorship she got from a local sports shop with kit and support. Angie's career was ended early when at 16 she suffered a serious knee injury and she began a long journey of surgery and physiotherapy. After making the decision to train as a physio, she has dedicated her career to ensuring that young athletes receive the appropriate advice and help to prevent unnecessary injuries and can go on to fulfil their potential.

She has developed her own sport specific screening to identify key movement faults which the team at Physiofit use to identify injury risk and where an athlete's progress may be being limited by a restriction in physical development. They then give each child a sport specific programme to help them correct these faulty patterns and become fitter, faster and stronger.

Angie says "Our aim is to ensure that all our athletes can reach their sporting potential with a body that is strong and robust enough to withstand the demands of sport at the highest level. We cannot guarantee that all children will play for their country but we can guarantee giving them the best possible chance to reach their own sporting potential."

If you know of any promising athlete from any sport aged between 12-17 that you feel would benefit from physio, running re-education, supervised strength and conditioning, injury prevention and a mentoring programme to help them develop to their sporting potential then please let them know about our sponsored athlete scheme. Further details and application forms can be obtained from Physiofit reception or by emailing [email protected]. The closing date is 10th July.

At Physiofit we are passionate about everything we do and are looking for athletes who will work hard, have a passion for their sport and who are committed to becoming the best they can be. We are asking each applicant what their sporting dreams and goals are for the future to help us identify which athlete has the Physiofit drive and determination.

All applicants will be invited whether successful or not to attend one of our seminars on "How to succeed in sport" as a thank you for taking the time to apply. This will include information regarding strength and conditioning, posture, nutrition and sports psychology.
