Community spirit comes to Lacey Green Park

The Friends of Lacey Green Park Community Group held their first litter pick event on Sunday, 1st June, to help improve their local park and they are delighted with the results.

Joined by around 30 volunteers, including children who worked very hard, the 'Friends' collected 25 full bin bags of rubbish to help make the park somewhere the local community can enjoy.

Chair of the Group, Stuart Ogden said "We hand delivered 2000 leaflets in the Lacey Green area about the litter pick and the residents that turned up did an incredible job.

"Everyone was in high spirits and we cleared the park of litter in about two hours. We gathered lots of ideas from local people who we met and shared the Group's vision for the park."

In addition to collecting bags of litter, the verges were cut back and dog mess was sprayed yellow to highlight the problem in the park, hopefully deter dog owners from not picking up after their pets and warn people where it is.

The Group will be holding a meeting on Monday 16th June at Lacey Green Primary Academy, starting at 6:30pm, where residents can share ideas on what they'd like the park facilities to include.

Stuart explained "We want ideas from the local community to put forward to Cheshire East so improvements in the park can start as soon as possible. The group have devised a number of improvements and new concepts for the park and will deal with the more mundane tasks of bins, seating and signage but we need to hear from everyone."

The Friends of Lacey Green Park consists of a handful of Lacey Green residents who care about the park and intend to look into ways of working with Cheshire East to improve the facilities and come up with new ideas.

Wilmslow Town Council awarded a grant of £1040 to the recently formed 'Friends' group in April so they could purchase litter picking equipment, graffiti cleaner, insurance, register a domain name and have flyers and posters printed.
