Friends pedal to Anglesey for hospice

A group of five dads whose children all attend Styal Primary School cycled from Styal to Anglesey this month to raise funds for St Ann's Hospice.

Sam Mikkelsen from Wilmslow was joined by Will Munro, Alex Round, Peter Holliday and Simon Tugby who live in Styal village.

Altogether they road 123 miles over two days and managed to raise over £2500 for the charity.

Sam Mikkelsen, who has never completed a challenge like this before, told wilmslow.co.uk "We thought it would be fun and a challenge, we underestimated how long it would take, as pure amateurs who had never cycled more than 45 miles in one go and we all found it hard going at times.

"It was gruelling at times, with the wind and rain, we were soaked after ten minutes and we did think on many occasions whether we had bitten off more than we could chew! But arriving in Anglesey to our cheering wives and kids was pretty special!"

They chose to raise money for St Ann's Hospice as Sam's mum sent her final weeks at the hospice where she sadly passed away in April, having been diagnosed with lung cancer last year.

Sam said "The staff at St Ann's were truly amazing, the way they cared for my mum and made all of our family feel welcome at anytime was humbling. Soon after my mum went into St Ann's and I experienced first hand the incredible care they give to everyone in their care, I was determined to help them."
