Final whistle for Bar Sport?

barsport

Following weeks of speculation, Bar Sport has announced its closure today - almost a year after opening on Parsonage Green.

A Customer Notice was posted on Twitter saying "Unfortunately the bar has now closed until further notice!

"Sorry for any inconvenience caused! Regards Bar Sport Team."

Daniel Slifkin opened the sports bar in the premises previously occupied by La Tasca restaurant, May 2013, following a reported £1m investment.

Bar Sport was first set up in the West Midlands in 1998 and operates half a dozen franchises around the country.

Updated: 1pm 1st May.

A notice has been placed on the window at Bar Sport today informing people that the property has been repossessed on behalf of the landlord by a debt recovery company.

Debt Recovery Plus Ltd, acting on behalf of the landlord/agent Johnson Fellows LLP, have re-entered the property today and secured the premises.

Any attempt by D & N Bars to enter the demised premises will result in criminal or civil proceedings being taken out against them.

Nando's. Get in there! Perfect site for them.

Sadly, I have never seen more than a handful of people in this bar. It's a big place and would surely lend itself well to a larger foodie chain such as TGI's or Nando's. However, La Tasca didn't do so well either. Or a Gusto would be fab too as we can never get in to Alderley Edge on a Saturday night.

I know so many people who would love this to become a Nando's!

A shame, particularly with the World Cup round the corner, but not a surprise. - Bar Sport and the Boardroom before it seem to confirm there's not enough demand in Wilmslow for a dedicated Sports Bar. Please, no more cafés, coffee shops or restaurants filling the vacant space - my vote is for a live music and comedy venue.

Only been once and that was enough !

Shame for the owners and staff. It was a brave move to invest so much in this venue. It has a large footprint and difficult to make the top floor pay. Perhaps a buffet style curry house with a simple function room for private hire upstairs would work? Most likely - a new franchisee or even the franchisor will buy it up on the cheap? Without the alleged £1 million investment costs it would work? Looking at the 'Dirty Dancer' on Grove Street you can gain a reasonable amount custom without big refurbishment costs.

No - please not another coffee bar or food outlet of any kind. The best thing would be if Tesco took the rest of the space and used the upstairs more efficiently for storage. The post office could have its own dedicated section downstairs since it struggles to cope at peak times.

Interesting to see this story and the tesco one side by side. Bulldoze the whole site and start again?

I`d rather have another bar/restaurant than more Tesco, Jackie. Maybe M&S food could take it instead of across the road- no parking though. Ideal for a restaurant or café/bar with outside seating. Big site to fill though. Hope it doesn`t stay empty as long as last time anyway.

I've heard that it will definitely be opening up again in about a week, ready for the World Cup, which is great for Wilmslow.

Nandos definitely! It's a great, reasonably priced restaurant and is popular with people of all ages. Every Nandos we've been in has been heaving. I've already told them to look for an opening in Wilmslow.

Gosh, I am so glad this place has closed. Last summer was offensive with middle aged, obese men, without shirts in the sun having a beer or seven. Not what Wilmslow needs. Something interesting and independent like knutsford wine bar would be fab?

Nandos dismissed this site ages ago for the simple reason that it won't work with the kitchen upstairs. Gusto wouldn't dream of competing with themselves. Tip; there are other very good restaurants in AE especially Y***.
If Tesco expanded it would probably be large enough to have restricted Sunday opening. Not in their interest.

No more coffee shops or wine bars please how about a McDonald's or a KFC
now that would do good business special when it's school holidays weekends
and when kids come out of school and we've got the train station and the
leasure centre near by so there's some more customers.
