Wilmslow Police would like to reassure residents that they have nothing to be concerned about, following an incident this afternoon which involved armed police and a police helicopter hovering over the town.

National Police Air Service Barton and armed officers assisted ground patrols in their search which resulted in one person being taken into custody, who is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

During the search the police helicopter used their Skyshout, the public address system fitted to the helicopter, which one local resident described as "instructing someone to come out and lie down".

A spokesperson from Wilmslow Police said "We do not consider there to be any risk to the general public. Apologies if we did worry you, or caused you any disturbance."

We hope to be able to provide further information about this incident on wilmslow.co.uk soon.

If anyone has any information about this incident they can call the Police on 101 or pass it on in confidence by phoning Crimestoppers on 0800555111.
