Maintenance work will be carried out on several footpaths near the town centre over the next week, which are starting to show signs of deterioration.
Work will be carried out on sections of Alderley Road, near Chapel Lane and on the service road by the petrol station, and on Manchester Road near Church Street.
The path surfaces will be smoothed over with a single new layer of micro-asphalt using the 'slurry seal' process - which seals the surface against water penetration and covers potential trip hazards. The material should then set within an hour or so.
Cllr Rod Menlove, chairman of the local Highways committee, said "Our footpaths have been dug up repeatedly for utility works over the years leaving the surfaces an uneven patchwork.
"Now is the time for action to prevent the need for extensive and costly repairs later. This is such a rapid process that there is minimal disruption and technically it does a great job of sealing and smoothing the surface. Visually it makes a dramatic improvement and it was used about a year ago to great effect in Station Road as can be seen from the before and after shots."
The work is expected to be carried out between Wednesday 5th March and Monday 10th March, plus on Sunday 16th March, however the material cannot be laid in wet weather so if it rains there may be some delays.

Here's what readers have had to say so far. Why not add your thoughts below.
Do it properley or dont bother.. Go and view for yourselves !
As I have tried to explain to CEC before, it's positively impossible to walk into Wilmslow without constantly fighting through dirt, branches and unacceptable surfaces.- And it's been like this for the last 15 years or more.
Ken Booth (retired & keen to walk!)
Now ........... if CEC asked the illegally camped travellers at Earls road....... Only joking........They would probably do a better job for less money anyway... and we would still need to clear the debris..
A Cllr in Alsager does it, which must be valued by the residents,
I would ask Cllr Paul Whiteley, but he doesn't live here anymore. Several are out on Adlington Road and have been for several months. He knows, but they aren't fixed. Sad....
