Footpaths to be smoothed over

Maintenance work will be carried out on several footpaths near the town centre over the next week, which are starting to show signs of deterioration.

Work will be carried out on sections of Alderley Road, near Chapel Lane and on the service road by the petrol station, and on Manchester Road near Church Street.

The path surfaces will be smoothed over with a single new layer of micro-asphalt using the 'slurry seal' process - which seals the surface against water penetration and covers potential trip hazards. The material should then set within an hour or so.

Cllr Rod Menlove, chairman of the local Highways committee, said "Our footpaths have been dug up repeatedly for utility works over the years leaving the surfaces an uneven patchwork.

"Now is the time for action to prevent the need for extensive and costly repairs later. This is such a rapid process that there is minimal disruption and technically it does a great job of sealing and smoothing the surface. Visually it makes a dramatic improvement and it was used about a year ago to great effect in Station Road as can be seen from the before and after shots."

The work is expected to be carried out between Wednesday 5th March and Monday 10th March, plus on Sunday 16th March, however the material cannot be laid in wet weather so if it rains there may be some delays.

Yes ...and this was done around the Thorngrove Rd / Drive Area,of wilmslow... ( Probably got absolutely nothing to do with any councillors living nearby )....... And the work men in effect paint the footpath with a tar roller, paint over weeds, cracks , drains , cats dogs, whatever is in the way ..... and within days the weeeds are back through, the cracks have never gone away.......And at what financial cost I drerad to think.......

Do it properley or dont bother.. Go and view for yourselves !

I was only thinking the other day, on the way to the post box near the Rifleman's on Moor Lane that the pavements in New St and Newlands Dr need re-surfacing, along with the full Moor La carriageway.

A waste of money! Proof? Pavements on Knutsford Rd near Stockton Rd. Worn through in no time, though for a while the slurry may prevent 'trip and sue'.

I have to add my thoughts that if domestically I were to boast to my better half that I was going to give our driveway the sort of "lick and promise" that Cllr.Rod is telling us about I would be politely told what do.

Would it be beyond the ability (don't answer) of the council to contact those who have dug up pavements or have facilities beneath them and demand a contribution to correct the faulty repairs. See Chapel lane amongst others. Meanwhile any claim attributable to poor repairs should be passed to the company responsible for that repair - they will all have public liability insurance - why should we pay via the council. Same for roads - see Moor Lane. This "wash over" with paste will last a couple of years and provide a nice photo!

I have repeatedly tried to highlight the state of footpaths leading into Wilmslow from Prestbury Road and Hough Lane, and Macclesfield Road, leading to our railway station. The second photo above is by no means the worst spot.

As I have tried to explain to CEC before, it's positively impossible to walk into Wilmslow without constantly fighting through dirt, branches and unacceptable surfaces.- And it's been like this for the last 15 years or more.

.. and I'm sorry to-say it will stay that way Ken........... as in life........... painting over the cracks has never solved anything....
Now ........... if CEC asked the illegally camped travellers at Earls road....... Only joking........They would probably do a better job for less money anyway... and we would still need to clear the debris..

Whilst Cllr Rod is out and about, perhaps he could drive around Wilmslow and report the street lights that aren't working at night?
A Cllr in Alsager does it, which must be valued by the residents,
I would ask Cllr Paul Whiteley, but he doesn't live here anymore. Several are out on Adlington Road and have been for several months. He knows, but they aren't fixed. Sad....

Very poor quality surface on Alderley Rd near Chapel Lane. Why did they cover the pavement from the Church at Chapel lane to the roundabout on Alderley Rd. If 8 people a day walk on this bit I would be amazed. The desperate bit is Chapel lane from Bethel lane towards the shops past Fulshaw Ave. Due to repeated Utilities digging up this bit. The pavement is badly rutted.Prams and disability scooters have a job to manoeuvre. Also passengers are sent out to the kerbside ,rather than break an ankle. Make the Utilities pay .They have ,by law got upto 3 years to make good.

And the pavements of Northward Road and Oak Lane and the incredible road surface of Northward Road...why oh why was that not completely resurface instead of the utterly stupid patchwork... and then there's the sign for Northward Road... how many complaints have been registered? .it's in pieces and a pavement hazard in itself..
