Town Council spruces up Grove Street and asks where next?

Wilmslow Town Council has arranged for some work to be carried out to tidy up Grove Street.

Speaking at this week's Town Council meeting, Cllr Ruth McNulty said "I don't know if you've noticed but there has been considerable work done on Grove Street to smarten it up."

Town Clerk Matthew Jackson explained "We have done some maintenance along Grove Street over the last two or three weeks to try and give that a little bit of a lift. Some that you might have noticed and some that you won't notice - like the weeds and moss that grows under the seats.

"Probably the slightly more noticeable is that we have done some work on the trees down Grove Street and that is to dig out and replace all the pebbles that are at the bottom of the trees - of which I think there are 14 of them down Grove Street - which just lifts the place that little bit. You might walk down there and think there is still more on Grove Street that needs doing to beautify it but it's certainly going in the right direction."

The Town Council is now looking where the remainder of its street maintenance budget should be spent and asking for councillors to raise any pressing problems they have within their wards.

Matthew Jackson added "The committee has approximately £3000 sat in the street scene maintenance budget for the remainder of this year (financial year) and this agenda item is either to raise areas now that we'd like to see actioned or alternatively to raise some aspects with me later that we'd try to deal with this year."

Cllr Keith Purdom responded "We do a lot in Grove Street but Chapel Lane has a lot of good businesses so I certainly think we should include Chapel Lane."

Cllr Ruth McNulty added "All the electricity boxes need a good coat of paint, a lot of them are very dull and many of them have graffiti on them, every single postbox looks as if it has been sunburnt and is a sort of pale pink colour, none of them are postbox red any more, and why don't we ask if we can have all the benches on Grove Street cleaned."

Other suggestions included cleaning up the stretch of road between the King's Arms roundabout and A34 bypass, providing more litter bins on Water Lane, mending the broken street sign on Station Road and cleaning a number of pathways where Cheshire East Council cannot get their equipment.

Where would you like the remaining £3000 too be spent?, or do you think more should be done on Grove Street? Share your views via the comment box below.

Please, please can something be done about the chewing gum on the floor? It's especially terrible outside Revolution and looks awful!

Mathew... please please please... spend the £3 grand on cleaning all the pavements of leaves and debris.. not done now for at least two years. Especially looking bad, is as mentioned, Chapel lane from Alderley rd, past the Health centre and 100 yards past the Carters Arms on the South side to Fulshaw Ave. Also Parkway. along the South side from Car park .down to Greenway.. Can we get the small street cleaning vehicles back. See them in Knutsford and Prestbury.. Do they shout louder than our PC council. We always had a road cleaner based on Sainsbury Car park. Supposed removed by Ches.East.

Wilmslow Town Council won't get everything right, but it's clear that we all value cleanliness. Cheshire East and prior Macc Boro Council treated Wilmslow as a cash cow or as one of my American family says, the illegitimate stepchild of the family - ignored.
Stone paving slabs were removed in front of Revolution and now we have tarmac complete with a liberal coating of chewing gum - easy to get off, just need the money.
Builders have profited over the years from the town's expansion and provided s106 funds to the Borough Council, yet very little hits the streets of Wilmslow. Something is very wrong with democracy if we don't see the money paid over to sustain and improve our town.
It's time that builders contributed directly towards the town's condition. After all, if it's good then they will profit from it. S106 payments are for Wilmslow not Crewe. Think about it folks and Cllr Fitzgerald's astonishing revelation, reported here, of the Wilmslow and Handforth S106 unknown cash hoard held by CEC.
So WTC don't mess around, round up a posse and go get it!

How about realigning the paving on the Rise coffee bar/Methodist Church side of Water Lane? It looks OK in good weather, but when it rains the water drains to the middle of the pavement and stays there, forming enormous puddles that have nowhere to go.

Sue, 'they' supposedly did that not long ago! I think they lifted three or four paving slabs, waited a few days and then put them back!

Beneath the railway bridge is disgusting. Really does need a cleannup. Steam cleaning seems appropriate.

Pavement outside Revolution that once was York stone flags and is now Tarmac plus gum. Coincidentally Macc Town Hall refurb and the square cost a few hundredK similar time. Beautiful cobbles and York stone flags laid down. Am I putting 2 and 2 together to make 5?

As said before Wilmslow is a cash cow. All take and no give. Getting better now thanks to WTC, but CEC have so much of our money. How can we get it back?
