The Met Office has issued an Amber Warning for severe gales and winds in the Cheshire East area from 4pm until late tonight, with winds expected in excess of 60-70mph.

A spokesperson from Cheshire East Council said "Cheshire East's highways team will be monitoring the weather conditions and additional resources have been placed on standby to ensure we can react to deal with the severe conditions forecast.

"Ice and snow are expected on the high ground, so we will be out treating the east, high east and southern routes this afternoon and evening. All areas will be monitored throughout the forecast period and any further action will be carried out as and when necessary.

"We are expecting the worst of the weather to hit Cheshire between 4pm–9pm today with the tail end of the weather system leaving the region by around midnight.

"While we are not expecting the weather to have significant impact in Cheshire, people are advised to keep themselves informed regarding the developing situation in and around the Borough and take weather conditions into account when planning your journeys."

To report any trees or debris blocking roads or footpaths, contact the Council's highways team on: 0300 123 5020.

It was tricky out there tonite. Quick point... I took the pic on my motorbike, helmet on, gloves off in the rain ( and yes, stationary before anyone tries to say anything witty about road sense ) so not the best quality. Lots of debris on Water Lane this afternoon too, and at least one business lost their wall mounted sign on Water Lane.

Just got a txt from a friend stating my "Free After Three" sign has broken away so that's heavy duty cable ties ripped apart in this, what bikers call - a chilly breeze - . i'll try and re-fix the sign tomorrow if a) it can be found and b) not too busy.

As far as poss, i and many other businesses will continue to support of the town, as does Lisa with this site. Some more help is always welcome.

Further to the Styal Road tree falling....The Cliff road up to Lacey green Road is closed now. A huge tree has snapped in half and dropped down across the road. Impossible for cars to pass and tricky to say the least for pedestrians. Seen too many trees falling down tonight including the one in Didsbury which fell onto a Mini Cooper....a miracle to see the driver got out with no severe injuries. Be safe everyone!
