Local students from the Kumon Wilmslow Study Centre celebrated at an awards ceremony at Pownall Hall School. The ceremony recognised their success and continued development studying on the Kumon Maths and English Programmes.
Kumon Wilmslow Instructor, Ian Hunt, presented students with their certificates and medals for their achievement of surpassing the Kumon International Standard for maths or English, meaning they are studying advanced work in comparison to their peers world-wide.
The ceremony also encouraged and motivated students who have yet to reach the Standard.
Daily study of the Kumon programmes requires dedication and perseverance from both the student and their parents. This ceremony is a chance to not only reward and celebrate the students' achievements but to also thank parents for their ongoing commitment to their child's Kumon studies.
Ian Hunt, said: "Recent studies have presented a disappointing, deteriorating and very worrying picture of the achievements of UK students compared to many other countries. Kumon is an international education programme. As such, our programmes are not aligned with any country's school curriculum. We measure our students' achievement by means of the Kumon International Standard. This is an approximation of their international school grade level.
"We aim for our students to reach the Kumon International Standard within one year, and then surpass it. The award ceremony recognises those students who have achieved this. Currently almost 50% of Kumon Wilmslow students are at, or above, the Kumon International Standard, and I am very proud of their achievements."
Established for over 50 years, the Kumon programmes enable children to develop their independent study skills and confidently tackle advanced work beyond the international standard for their age.
Students initially start at a comfortable level with a focus on building a strong foundation in the way they study; they will develop invaluable study skills such as concentration, pace and rhythm before progressing to more advanced work.
Kumon Educational is the UK's largest supplementary education provider, with over 66,000 students studying at more than 650 study centres.
