Wilmslow Station makes new 'Friends'

Based on the success of other groups at stations along the Crewe to Manchester line, such as Handforth and Goostrey, the Friends of Wilmslow Railway Station held their inaugural meeting at the station's new cafe on July 17th.

The Friends Group will help with duties such as watering planters in and around the station, keeping the station areas tidy and presentable and updating community poster cases.

Members of the Friends Group include representatives from Northern Rail, the Crewe to Manchester Community Rail Partnership, Cheshire East Council, Wilmslow High School, Incredible Edible, Cycle Wilmslow, local residents, and members of the Lifestyle Group based at Wilmslow Leisure Centre.

Chris Dale, Chairman of the Crewe to Manchester Line Community Rail Partnerships said "I am delighted that there is now a Friends of Wilmslow Station group. Friends groups are a vital part of all Community Rail Partnerships and provide an opportunity for local people to have some practical input regarding the upkeep of their local station. I look forward to working with them in the future."

Members of the Wilmslow group identified their first project as establishing a library at Wilmslow Station, for the benefit of all passengers. Over the coming weeks the Friends Group will be renovating a vacant room at the Station and collecting book donations for the library.

If you would like to donate any books for the library, please leave these for the attention of the Lifestyle Group at Wilmslow Leisure Centre reception.

The group would welcome new members form the local community to assist with the current and future projects visit the Manchester Community Rail Partnership website for further information.
