More planting planned for town centre

DSC_4608

Having made improvements to the appearance of the town centre through planted troughs, tiered planters and hanging baskets at the new gateway signs, Wilmslow Town Council has agreed to take this project further.

Encouraged not just by the improvements but the positive feedback, the Town Council has decided to look as to how they can enhance other high profile but less attractive areas of the town, which are primarily owned by Cheshire East Council, through professional landscaping.

Potential areas identified for landscaping include the roundabout at the junction of Mill Street and Manchester Road, Hayden Park roundabout by the A34 bypass, the raised bed on the A34 at the front of BP petrol station and the bed bordering the Parish Hall car park on Cliff Road.

Other potential sites include the land between the railway station forecourt and Station Road, the narrow beds around the leisure centre, verges to the West of the A34 in Parsonage Green and areas adjacent to Sainburys' car park.

In order to progress this project a working party will be established to design planting schemes and associated costs of maintenance with the aim of making recommendations to the Order & Community Committee of WTC at their October meeting.

It is hoped that work can then commence in the Autumn so the display are ready for next year.

The flowers around the town are really beautiful. In the over thirty years I have lived here I don't think I have ever seen the town look so good.

I agree that the flowers look beautiful, but once again Chapel Lane has been overlooked. We have some nice shops here and it would be lovely to have some planters so please bear us in mind.

I totally agree the flowers are beautiful, and they really put a smile on my face.
Please can someone review sainsburys path off parkway which is a green weed area full of rubbish containing bottles , wrappers and cans bought from sainburys no doubt
I am sure this area and the badly chopped hedge could be reviewed.

And what about Hawthorn Street?? Give us some credit... a lot of people rush through, although often sit like puddings as the traffic grinds to a halt, unlike on Alderley Road! We are a central point and part of Wilmslow... go for it Town Council acknowledge that we exist...... please

I remember an interesting programme on tv where Anne Swithenbank looked at developing public spaces using wildflower plantings to improve the ecology, and reduce maintenance costs associated with formal gardens. Maybe worth the council looking into as a low cost way of making things look more attractive, and improve the local environment.
