
The funeral of Lance Corporal Jamie Webb, a soldier of 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment (Cheshire) who was tragically killed in Afghanistan last month, will take place on Wednesday 24th April.
Lance Corporal Webb, from Handforth, died as a result of wounds sustained during an insurgent attack on his patrol base in the Nad 'Ali district of Helmand province on 25th March.
A military funeral for Lance Corporal Webb will be held at Saint Chad's Church, starting at 1pm on Wednesday. Speakers will relay the funeral to mourners expected to gather outside the church.
The 24-year-old soldier was born in Wythenshawe and attended Wilmslow High School and Macclesfield College.
His family issued the following statement "We are so proud of Jamie being a Mercian soldier. Jamie is loved by his dad, Dave, mum, Sue, and his close family and friends."
The B5358 Wilmslow Road in Handforth will be closed from its junction with A555 Manchester Airport Eastern Link Road to its junction with B5358 Station Road, between 11.30am and 2.30pm on Wednesday. A procession will take place from Saint Chad's Church to Wilmslow cemetery.
Traffic will still be able to travel along Station Road and Manchester Road into Wilmslow.
