Wilmslow Leisure Centre is back on the police radar because youths are starting to congregate around there again.

The police were dealing with an average of eight or nine instances at one stage per month, that reduced to nothing and now there has been two instances in the past week - so to avoid it becoming a problem again the police are addressing the issue.

Sgt Andy Miller said "There have been three incidents in the last month whereby youths have been causing problems both outside and within the centre.

"It has been mainly kids aged between 14 and 18 being abusive and causing anti social behaviour though none of it has been serious. Some youths were throwing weights around in the gym at one stage until removed by the staff. No criminal offences have been committed and we are working with the centre to address this issue."

Sgt Miller added "Some of the issues were involving alcohol so we were tracing where the alcohol was coming from and we gave some warnings in respect to that but a lot of time unfortunately parents would drop their kid off with a load of beer."

Wilmslow Police did quite a bit of work with the Leisure Centre staff towards the end of last year, which included officers who organise the Street Sports events going down there to engage with the youths and get them involved in exercise using the games areas at the back of the leisure centre.

"but a lot of time unfortunately parents would drop their kid off with a load of beer." Unbelievable, what sort of parents do this?

Only Wiilmslow teenagers can say their parents literally drove them to drink. I would like to know how many parents were prosecuted for supplying alcohol to persons under 18? A zero tolerance approach to this problem might pay dividends in the future.

Exactly Lee. Did the police not take the youths home and arrest the parents? This country is far too soft at times.
