Following successes in the North Western and Northern rounds of the British Schools Trampolining Competition, an unprecedented 7 teams qualified for the National Finals held in Cannock on Saturday, 9th March.
Twenty-eight students competed for the school in five novice and two elite teams.
Every bouncer came home with a medal – a fantastic achievement, made even more impressive when you consider that 126 schools entered the tournament.
All seven teams made it on to the podium, with Boys Under 19 novice in third position, the Boys Under 13 Novice, the Girls and Boys Under 15 Novice, the Under 15 Boys Elite and the Girls Under 19 novice all achieving second place, and to top it all off, the Under 19 Boys Elite were crowned National Champions.
In the individual competitions, Matt Graham achieved second place, agonisingly close to first place, missing out by just 0.1 points.
Team Manager and Head Coach, Hilary Pemberton was ecstatic, “We’ve done it again! Another trampoline national final and every child returned with a medal. A big well done; my gratitude to all who made the day possible.”
She went on, “The girls are now ever-closer to gaining nationals titles. What an achievement to reach the finals in the first place, and then to return with silver. The boys had a tough competition this year but, again, having five boys teams in the finals is an achievement in itself. Our teams all placed in the top three in each category and the cherry on the cake is winning the U19 boys elite category."
Hilary was quick to acknowledge the help of others, with thanks going to assistant coaches, Richard Price, Anna Cragg, Ruth Haward and judges, Jack Griffiths-Jackson, Richard Downs, Ann Powell and Deirdre Smith.
The teams were as follows.
