House damaged by deliberate rubbish fire

Fire officers believe burning rubbish, which damaged a house on Blackden Walk this week, was set alight deliberately.

Firefighters were called to a fire in an alley way between terraced houses involving a quantity of rubbish at 9.21pm on Tuesday, 19th February.

The fire had spread to the wooden eves of the property at first floor level and damaged cavity wall insulation and the wooden joists.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels and a covering jet to extinguish the fire. Once the fire was out a large industrial fan was used to clear the smoke, then firefighters used small cutting equipment to expose the floor boards and a thermal imaging camera to check for the spread of fire.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Anyone with any information about the cause of the fire contact the police on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
