
Veteran broadcaster Stuart Hall has been charged with one offence of rape and 14 offences of indecent assault.
Stuart Hall, 83, of Prestbury Road, Wilmslow was arrested this morning (Tuesday 22nd January) after attending a police station in the county by appointment.
The rape is alleged to have been committed in 1976 against a 22-year-old woman.
The indecent assault offences are alleged to have been committed between 1967 and 1986 and involve 10 girls aged between 9 and 16 years.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said "Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service an 83 year old man has this evening (Tuesday 22nd January) been charged with one offence of rape and 14 offences of indecent assault."
Stuart Hall, who has lived in Wilmslow for over 30 years, was appointed OBE for his services to broadcasting and charity in the 2012 New Year Honours list.
He became particularly well-known as the presenter of It's a Knockout in the 1970s and early 80s and sports reporter for BBC Radio 5 Live.
Mr Hall has been bailed to appear before Magistrates in Preston on February 7th 2013.
