Three month trial to clamp down on illegal parking

PCSOs will be helping to tackle illegal parking in Wilmslow as part of a three month trial.

Inspector Sue Mills told Wilmslow Town Council that they are just setting the project up to run from this month.

It has been agreed that two days of PCSO time will be allocated to Wilmslow Town Council each month, which will be free of charge.

The 16 hours per month have been divided between the PCSO's and they have a spreadsheet which will be presented to the Town Council at the end of the trial period. The sheet lists those roads highlighted by the Council for the officers to pay attention to and they will note the date, times, number of advisory notices issued and the number of penalty notices.

Inspector Sue Mills said "That will give an idea of what's going on and whether that's of value to you to consider part funding a PCSO in the future.

"It might be that what people are complaining about are lines and signs, or it might be dangerous obstruction which the PCSOs can have an affect on."

Inspector Mills added "The spreadsheet will make sure that every road is given the same amount of attention."

Following the trial period Wilmslow Town Council will revisit the possible funding of additional hours for existing PCSO's.

This is a great initiative and I hope it is successful. But I also hope it doesn't just concentrate on main roads and the centre of town. Our residential streets are also blighted by inconsiderate drivers, and pushchair users, the elderly and the infirm feel helpless in the battle against reckless drivers.

How can this be a good idea when the role of a CSO was not set up for this. The council have got this on the cheap and the police budget which is to be cut again is losing out on revenue, not to mention the services of the staff THEY employ. Pay up or employ more staff !!!

Take your point, Mike. But from a resident's point of view I don't really mind who picks up the bill as long as the job gets done.

Can I recommend two streets to start with? Church Street during the morning and evening rush hours, outside Waitrose. Hawthorn Street at the same times, outside the Chinese. Both these areas are covered by single yellow lines which are ignored.

I don't know whether it falls within the remit of this initiative, but it'd be great if there was a clamp down on the lazy motorists who seem to think it's acceptable to use disabled spaces, both around central Wilmslow and at the Summerfields Village shops, Handforth Dean.

You can add to that Swan Street, Station Road and Bank Square during delivery times in the morning. Pushing a lorry onto the pavement so that it blocks any chance of passing between Warham Street and the Tyre place (and thus the only way of getting to the station) is a disgrace of the first order, as is pulling onto the pavement with a lorry over the double yellow lines in front of Bang and Olufsen and ensuring that for the next 30 minutes nobody in Bank Square can see anybody coming out of Hawthorn Lane or vice versa.
