Permission to install floodlights at a tennis club on Cumber Lane has been refused.

Lindow Tennis Club, which has three tennis courts, initially sought permission to erect eight floodlights, each of which would be 8 metres high and could be used at all hours.

During the course of the application changes were made to the plans so that the lights would be retractable, they would be 8 metres high when in use and 3.5 metres when retracted, the lights would serve two rather than three courts and would not be used after 9.45pm.

Wilmslow Town Council objected to the plans and recommended refusal due to "detrimental impact on the residential area".

Sixteen letters were received in regard to this application, thirteen of which were objections and three in support of the application. A petition was also submitted which contained 34 signatories objecting to the application.

Cheshire East Council refused planning permission for the floodlights to be installed at Lindow Tennis Club on the grounds that the proposed lights would have a significant detrimental impact on the amenities of the occupants of neighbouring properties due to light spillage, light glare and noise disturbance.
