Flooding on Alderley Road

Areas of Wilmslow have been hit by flooding after heavy rain.

Pedestrian access from Wilmslow to Alderley Edge is difficult due to flooding on Alderley Road, which is believed to have been caused by an overflowing land drain on the Royal London site.

Water is still gushing from a manhole cover in the culvert so pedestrians wishing to pass are advised to wear their wellies.

As illustrated in the second photo above, part of the woodland at Royal London is also under water.

There have been smaller floods at the Fulshaw Cross (King's Arms) roundabout and on Knutsford Road.

Heavy rain is expected to give way to showery weather this week though heightened flood risk remains across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset.

The second photo in fact shows how what was the Trout Pond of Harefield House (fed by the Whitehall Brook) has overfilled.

I do hope that the company who re-surfaced the above section of road will not be getting any further contracts from Cheshire East. Yet again it becomes obvious that this "spray on" road surface that has come to favour over the last few years is totally useless, and likely just another way to meet targets on the cheap.

I find it slightly ironic that Tescos and M&S in Handforth can re-surface their car parks more efficiently and to a higher standard than the council manage with the main roads.
