PCSO to crack down on illegal parking

A PCSO will be helping to tackle illegal parking in Wilmslow, including those motorists who park inconsiderately outside local schools.

Wilmslow Town Council agreed at this week's meeting to take on a PCSO for a trial period of three months at no cost to the council.

PCSO's have the authority to issue warning notices and parking fines as well as arrange for cars that are causing an obstruction to be removed.

Town Clerk Matthew Jackson said "Cllr Shepherd and I met with Inspector Sue Mills to discuss the issue of inappropriate and obstructive parking.

"Out of that meeting came a number of options which included the Town Council providing funding to provide more PCSO time or even an additional PCSO to help deal with this and any other issues that may be highlighted in the future.

"One option put forward was for the police to fund, at no cost to the Town Council, additional hours for enhanced monitoring and action to combat this issue, for a trial period of three months. This option was taken up by the Council on Monday evening."

Following the trial period Wilmslow Town Council will revisit the possible funding of additional hours for existing PCSO's.

This is not what PCSO's were formed to do. They are there to assist the police in lots of things, including parking issues, I do not believe it is the best use of resources to turn a PCSO into a Traffic Warden. Wilmslow Town Centre will probably have a designated Officer, perhaps they can incorporate looking at the bad inconsiderate parking into their daily patrol amongst the other thousand of other good things they do.

Have to agree - working in Wilmslow I see plenty of traffic wardens - what exactly are they doing then?

Sorry, I disagree with the previous two comments. There are two issues here. They are the enforcement of Civil law and the enforcement of Criminal Law

Civil Law:- There are no such things as Traffic Wardens in Wilmslow. They are Civil Enforcement Officers. They are there to enforce Civil Laws. ie the enforcement of yellow lines etc

Criminal Law:- This is enforced by the police, Such as obstruction of the highway (Which includes the pavement).

Which laws do you want to be enforced, and which don't you?
