The Wilmslow Poppy Appeal has had another successful year raising over £17,000 to help ex-servicemen and women.

Having organised the Poppy Appeal in the town for the past 41 years, Jim McDermott is now retiring from the role. He would like to thank all the public, businesses and schools for all their support over the years.

These collections cannot be achieved without the help of a team of volunteers who man the stalls, including representatives from the Air, Army and Fire Cadets who give up their time to help with this worthwhile cause during the Poppy Week.

The total sum of £17,110.19 was raised this year.

From 2013 onwards, local fundraiser Khumi Burton will take over the role of Poppy Organiser, she will be helped by Kate Hewison.

If you would like to help out in any way next year Khumi can be contacted on 01625 548664 or by email.

Khumi said "One can never be short of volunteers – looking forward to hearing from you."
