Residents wishing to comment on the plans for a £100m World Logistics Hub at Manchester Airport have until Thursday 22 November, when the plans go before the Manchester City Council Planning Committee for the final decision.
The plans, which involve the loss of 90 acres of former Green Belt land, have already been recommended for approval by Wythenshawe Area Committe.
The site will house 43 cargo warehouses for freight companies and almost 1500 parking spaces, and is expected to create 1800 jobs. It is located to the south of Junction 6 of the M56 motorway. The north-western boundary runs along the M56 motorway, while the north-eastern and eastern boundaries are formed by Wilmslow Road (A538). Primary access will be via the A538 Wilmslow Road, with junction upgrades made at Sunbank Lane.
The southern and south-western boundaries of the site border areas of woodland and farmland, including Cotteril Clough SSSI, Sunbank Wood SBI and Castle Mill Farm. The affected area is home to a wealth of wildlife, including Red-Listed birds, bats, badgers and Great Crested Newts.
Opponents of the scheme include local group Save Sunbank (who have an online petition) and SEMA (Stop Expansion at Manchester Airport).
The plans (application no. 100263) are available on Manchester City Council’s Planning website, and comments should be made to Planning Officer Dave Lawless by email on [email protected].
