Distraction thieves strike again in Wilmslow salon

Local residents and businesses are urged to be vigilant as distraction thieves continue to operate in Wilmslow.

In recent months men and woman, who have been described as being of Eastern European appearance, have been targeting local bars, hairdressers, beauty salons and coffee shops where they are using distraction techniques to steal iPhones.

On Thursday, 25th October, the owner of a hairdressing salon on Hawthorn Lane reported two Eastern European men acting suspiciously in her salon at about 4.30pm.

Sharon Dobson of Little Big Heads, told wilmslow.co.uk, "Two men came into the shop, one was mid twenties and the other in their forties. They spoke to the girl on reception, asking to book an appointment for their three year old son.

"They had Eastern / Western European accents - possibly Turkish or Romanian? The older one was asking lots of questions, distracting the receptionist. The younger one was holding a greeting card. I walked through from the back of the shop and as soon as I saw the men I knew they didn't look right. However, there's always that small chance they may have been genuine so I didn't feel I could accuse them of anything. Anyway I had a shop full of children and didn't want to alarm them.

"Instead I stayed next to the receptionist until they had gone. I noticed the younger ones eyes were darting everywhere, to the coats and bags, the computer etc, but I just kept my eyes on him until they left. They asked a few more generic questions about the appointment and then left.

"Once they left asked the staff to check their phones/purses etc - it was then we discovered that my iPhone had gone. The two men had left the salon and turned right up Hawthorn Lane."

These two men are also believed to have visited other Wilmslow salons on the same day.
