Charity Christmas card shop opens this week

The annual pop-up charity Christmas card shop opens for business in Wilmslow library this week.

The pop-up charity Christmas shop is a well established feature of the Christmas season and enables people to support a variety of national and local charities knowing that the charities receive every penny spent on the cards.

Started over forty years ago by Sheila Hallas MBE, the Combined Charities Christmas Shops Association has raised over £4 million for the participating charities.

Sheila Hallas said "The charities need every penny they can get, and people who buy charity cards want to know that none of the monies are syphoned off for other purposes."

Marjorie Ashworth of Cancer Research is delighted, she said "The CCCSA does a great job for us, raising both money and awareness, and in these difficult times it is good to know that Sheila and her team are continuing to support us."

Kate Wilkinson, Service Improvement Manager at Crossroads Care said "I would like to say a huge thank you for the work of the Charity Christmas Card Shops Association. We are delighted that the CCCSA is continuing to support us in this way as, without the shops and the volunteers who man them so enthusiastically, we would not be able to raise the funds we do from selling our charity christmas cards. Every penny raised will go to support carers and the people they care for and is much appreciated by everyone at Crossroads Care."

All overheads are covered by the sale of gifts, stocking fillers and wrapping paper and the shops are staffed entirely by volunteers. Nobody in the whole operation receives any payment for their services.

The shop at Wilmslow Library will represent 55 local and national charities and is open during library opening times from Saturday, 27th October, to Saturday 8th December selling cards, gifts, paper, toys and stocking fillers.

I just love xmas time and the plop of cards from old friends on the mat as the postie pushes them through the letter box. So much warmer than electronic messages. Now, where's my pen?
