Wilmslow Town Council has agreed that they will work with Cheshire East Council (CEC) to try and organise an event to celebrate the medal success of Wilmslow's Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
CEC are in the process of trying to organise special events in the towns and parishes across the Borough which have medalists from the Games. They have already hosted a homecoming event for gymnastic heroine Beth Tweddle which saw hundreds of people turn out to welcome her home to Bunbury.
It is hoped that Wilmslow residents Victoria Pendleton, who picked up a gold medal in the keirin as well as silver in the sprint at the London Olympics, will be able to attend a special event in the town alongside pilot cyclist Craig MacLean who won gold at the Paralympics in the tandem sprint final.
Should CEC be able to organise for the two champions to attend an event in the town, which if it happens will take place during the next few weeks, then the Town Council agreed to provide both financial support, up to £5000, and organisational support.
We will keep you informed if plans for this event come to fruition.

Here's what readers have had to say so far. Why not add your thoughts below.
Wilmslow has 3 resident para/olympic redsidents, not 2. Andrew Tennant ((Track Cycling, Endurance, Olympics) failed to achieve a medal position, yet the Olympic slogan is 'Inspire a Generation', which IMO means no one can succeed unless they paricipate.
For a Wilmslow-only event, all 3 should be invited to collectively switch on the Christmas lights, for which WTC already have an approved budget allocation
The previous occasion that I made this suggestion the response was muted. Well nil actually apart from a verbal "good idea". So come on good folks of Wilmslow write in with your support or have you forgotten the heroics that we so readily cheered on and gloried in so very recently.
