Wilmslow has been granted its status as an ArcAngel protected town, which seeks to encourage responsible drinking, target prolific and persistent offenders of alcohol related violent crime, raise public awareness of the issue of alcohol related disorder and help people feel safer on a night out.
Following a period of assessment by Sergeant Andy Miller of Wilmslow Police and a representative from Trading Standards those licensees who signed up to the initiative have passed a number of criteria designed to promote responsible drinking and public safety.
Wilmslow Police and Cheshire East Council have been working together closely and are pleased to announce that 12 premises in the town have been assessed and reached the required standard to gain their ArcAngel status.
Sergeant Andy Miller said "We have been impressed with the attitude and commitment of all the pubs and clubs in Wilmslow that are involved. They have demonstrated that they care about the local community and are doing their part to ensure that Wilmslow is a safe place to enjoy a night out."
The ArcAngel Initiative is part of a joint approach to tackling alcohol related crime and underage drinking between Cheshire Police, local councils, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and NHS Trusts, the initiative has already been implemented in Chester, Congleton and Sandbach.
In recognition of Wilmslow being granted ArcAngel status a launch event will be held at 3pm on Saturday, 1st September, in Bank Square. All the 12 licensees will be present along with Cllr Jim Crockett, chairman of Wilmslow Town Council, who will present certificates and promotional packs to the licensees.
The exhibition vehicle will also be in Bank Square along with some local police officers and PCSOs who will be handing out flyers and be available to speak to the public about ArcAngel.
