Its really nice to know that at the same time, i was driving down Hough lane. Driving down a quiet country road going about my business trying to be a model citizen and putting business and tax into the economy. Came round a corner from a 70mph into a 30mph to see a police van parked up with a speed camara. Really sits well with me when people in broad day light are smashing and robbing a local jewelry shop, and the police are parked up on a country lane pointlessly squeezing more money out of the good people of this area. To say i am mad and disgraced is an understatement. I could go on and on and on, and the way i feel right now is that ill say every credit to the thieves if the police are at it then why not.

Oliver

There were two police community support officers in that van. They were doing a speed watch campaign responding to complaints from members of the public about speeders on Hough Lane. Speeders get a warning letter not a fine. Hough Lane is 60 mph not 70 mph as its a single carriageway with a national speed limit.

I don't know if you meant to type 'disgraced' Oliver, but perhaps you were/are. Given the serious nature of the crime and the effect this will have had on anyone caught up in it (the article doesn't mention if anyone was hurt) I'd say your final comment is rather insensitive and inappropriate.

Helen, your comments regarding the serious nature of this crime and its effect it will have on anyone involved are valid. As are Mr Lawler's regarding the two PCSO's carrying out the wishes of the community.
Oliver does, however, have a point. This is not the first time robberies have occurred in broad daylight in a prominent retail location. Nor is it the first time a jewellery store has been targeted.
In fact I believe almost every jewellery store in the area has suffered at least one daylight robbery.
What does this tell us about the perception criminals have of the way our town centres are policed?

According to tweets from people in the area at the time police were on the scene within a matter of minutes and a helicopter out within 10 minutes - can't ask for more than that.

It's a credit to Cheshire Police in these times of cuts that they managed to respond so quickly, and presumably also managed to catch Oliver speeding. I agree with Helen's comment.

Vic, Oliver doesnt have a point, his comments show complete disregard for the tremendous fear the staff members must have been put through. The only point Oliver was trying to get across is that he was annoyed because he thought he was going to get a ticket because he was speeding. And by the way Oliver, model citizens don't go about speeding, it dangerous and kills.

i didnt get a ticket and i wasnt speeding, the point is now were talking about it that every single day of my life i see the police everywere in speed camaras. The reason of this isnt to reduce speed its to make the goverment money. If your not up to date with currrent global economic crisis ill let you know we currently have a defecit of 4.3 billion a declining economy a massive unemployment figure and falling gdp. These problems lead to massive crime hence forth the robbery, and massive cuts in the police force. Its now the polices job to make money for the goverment not to police the streets we only need to look at the london riots for that. I dont have a point why dont you type in on google some statistics of the uk. Why dont you speak to the police themselves its common knowledge there isnt enough police on the streets. The point is and ill say this loud and clear whilst people are getting robbed in broad daylight police are out in speed camara vans its that simple. I would just like to say i didnt get a ticket because i wasnt speeding
its not the point. My point is if that police car was driving through wilmslow instead it wouldnt have happened. I take back my last comment apoligies for that, there just never seems to be justice for the good people it upsets me.

If the police were on the scene in minutes then they would have caught them wouldnt they martin, and if a police helicopter was on the scene its not difficult to track 2 motorbikes heading down the A34 is it. Your trying to tell me that it takes less than 2 minutes to pull up on motorbikes dismount take a sledge hammer and try to smash through the front windows, when that doesnt work then go in through the door and robb the place the police station is 10 seconds away from the shop. william i didnt think i was going to get a ticket because i wasnt speeding i was behind about five cars that all slowed down. Im annoyed because of the robbery and what the people had to go through and the chance it might not have happened if the police had have been on the streets as apose to collecting speeding fines. Ill say again please dont patronise me about speeding, robbers with sledge hammers and guns kill.

well at least we know that the thieves will have picked up speeding fines on there way home. It seems from all the comments thats all that matters.

I've already pointed out, the police community support officers were not collecting fines, they were recording speeds and sending out warning letters. PCSOs can't issue speeding fines, they don't have the power, they are also not equipped to deal with armed robbers. You have a very misguided view of the police, as someone who works closely with them I suggest you ask to go out on patrol and get a real understanding of what they do, because this nonsense about being directed by the government to generate extra money with speeding fines couldn't be further from the truth.

Sorry, Oliver, but speed limits are there for a purpose, namely the safety of other road users and local residents. It's simple. If you don't want to fill the government's coffers, don't speed!
Then lots more police would potentially be available to deal with other crimes.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1293281/Speed-cameras-87m-year--fail-make-impact-road-casualties.html

My point is a bit broader than the individual van and what type of police they are etc. The point is if its not there, its on the wilmslow bypass, if not there then somewere else but quite literaly its daily. For me that is there to generate money for the goverment. Crime soars the point is I know that you know that and if robbers are happy to do crimes like that on a high street in broad daylight, then they know that.

Also when there parked up on the road they make everone slow down. I dont think the general public knows the difference between the polive ranks. Your telling me if they were on the high street the robbers would have said " oh look theres some PCSOs there doesnt matter there not equipped to deal with armed robbers, lets just crack on in broad day light". I would love to go out on patrol with them, how do you go about doing that i would do that weekly. When you say further from the truth i got bored after posting two articles i could post endless in the debate in the police enfoeced goverment cash cow camara scam that rips money from the public on a daily basis.

We can all believe what we like it's of no consequence. The criminal fraternity have their own opinion and they obviously do not anticipate a quick response or capture by the constabulary even for raids in broad daylight. Given the past track record of armed robberies on jewellery stores in this area they clearly estimate the odds to be in their favour.
You cannot deter criminals with PR.

I will also just like to say to everybody on these comments as far as speeding goes i drive a 50cc 25 year old moped that achieves 25 mph. if im going down hill, with a gale force wind behind me i might if im lucky get 30mph. I could probably throw it faster than 30 mph. The thoughts of speeding are a distant dream and as 1000,s of bentleys, porches and range rovers roar past me breaking the speed limits with no concearn for anyones saftey, the only way i could get a ticket is if i got off and ran past the camaras. So listen to the point.

i dont wish that at all, i take back my last coment on the origonal comment it was childish, stupid and ive said sorry for that. Absolutly everything still stands i will argue the case with anyone i could post up 1000,s of stats in my favour have posted lots up but they havnt come on yet. It doesnt take much to google everything though. I will keep going on this look at this link for example discussing that if its not about making money then why do the police have quotas. Lets here the defence for that please, or have the robbers stole your tongues?

Never heard of a road that goes from a 70 to a 30. Maybe you should learn the rules of the road (Roadcraft is a good book), and also the odd spelling lesson wouldn't go amiss. This is an appalling incident and lucky that no one was injured. Think you are missing the point.
