First Wilmslow Spring Clean a 'modest success'

Wilmslow held its first Spring Clean last week during which businesses and volunteers got together to help smarten up Wilmslow's gardens, hedges, verges and pavements.

Wilmslow Town Council led the operation with the Wilmslow Local Area Partnership to spring clean the town between 14th and 20th May, and they are hoping this will become an annual event.

Speaking at last night's Town Council meeting, Cllr Ruth McNulty described the event as a "modest success", which they hope to build upon next year and get more people involved.

Cllr McNulty told fellow councillors "The spring clean went very well. It was a terrific way to talk to residents, everyone stopped and said something to you. In terms of engaging the public it was great.

"We have received some very supportive correspondence since and I think next year we can improve."

Some residents came together in groups to clear areas of the town, such as Chapel Lane and Albert Road, the car parks around Dean Row and the area by the library.

It was not possible for all the volunteers to complete the planned work last week so some of the clearing up has dragged into this week.

Matthew Jackson, Town Clerk, said "If it happens again next year, which we are pretty sure it will do, then we would like more people to get involved and to cover more areas.

"We had a list of community tasks, some of which were done during the week and those that weren't completed we are expecting to be done this week."
