A vintage single-engined biplane will fly into Manchester airport this week.

At around 11am on Thursday, 17th May, a De Havilland Hornet Moth G-ADND will land, the first aircraft to land at Manchester Airport on 17th May 1937 - before the aerodrome had officially opened.

In 1937 the aircraft was unable to land at Barton Aerodrome due to poor weather and so could either have landed at Woodford or Manchester.

Now in 2012 G-ADND is recreating its flight of 1937. The aircraft will land on 17th May and be positioned for photographs from the Runway Visitor Centre for much of the day.

At around 11am on Friday 18th May the aircraft will depart for Woodford Aerodrome and land with the new site owners permission. Later that day it will depart for its final destination Barton Aerodrome.

A spokesperson for Manchester Airport said "We do not anticipate that the aircraft will cause any noise disturbance but will certainly be unusual and we hope that you will enjoy the sight of this unique aircraft passing through."
