Plans are well underway for celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in Wilmslow, during the special 4-day weekend at the beginning of June.

Wilmslow Town Council is working with individuals and local groups to organise a community celebration to mark the Diamond Jubilee on Monday 4th June.

The event, funded by the Town Council, will take the form of a community picnic in The Carrs on the Bank Holiday Monday.

The organising committee wish to invite residents of Wilmslow to bring a picnic and a blanket down to The Carrs to enjoy this free event which will feature a whole host of performances from local community groups.

Amongst those taking to the stage are local rock band Forever and a Day who will be performing some of their new material.

Three ensembles from the brass, woodwind and string sections of Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra will also be showcasing their talent with a selection of popular classics.

Other performers include: Wilmslow Rock Choir, songs from the youth theatre group 'Tempo', local crooner 'Alan Burton' and St Bartholomew's Youth Group 'Footstepz' will be acting out 'George and the Dragon'. The stage show will end with 'Legends of Swing' featuring Mike Palmer.

Entertainment on the day will not be restricted to the stage though, as hundreds of ducks will race along the River Bollin competing in the Charity Duck Derby. Tickets for the duck race, priced £1 each, are on sale at a selection of local shops and will be available at the Wilmslow Artisan Market on Saturday, 19th May, where organiser Dave Cash will have a stall.

Community groups will also be manning their own stalls at the event, organising treasure hunts, selling drinks for charity and providing additional entertainment.

The Wilmslow Jubilee Picnic on The Carrs starts at 12 noon with a parade led by the Alderley District Scout Band who will make their way through the Carrs at 1pm. The event is due to end at around 5pm.

Anybody who feels that they can offer their services to help to set up, clear up or give time to help marshall during the event should contact email the Town Clerk, Matthew Jackson or call him on 01625402907 as soon as possible.
