Davina McCall opens 'new' Lindow School

Popular TV presenter, Davina McCall visited Lindow Community Primary School today to formally open the school's new facilities.

With funding from Cheshire East Council, the School's own budget and the PTA's fundraising, the project has been delivered on time and budget, without disruption to the children's education.

As well as unveiling a plaque, Ms McCall also sealed a time capsule containing examples of today's children's work for the next generation to discover in 25 years time.

Davina said "It's great to see the fantastic result of the half a million pound investment in the school that my cousin, the Chair of Governors, has talked about. Today Ive been able to see why she and all the other governors, the staff and children that I met, are so proud of the school. I can really feel what a bright, happy, warm place this is and, as a parent myself, I know how great it is when your child looks forward to going to school.

"The kids have shown me that Lindow is a wonderful school and everyone who has been involved in the recent project can be justifiably proud of what they have achieved. It's a real pleasure to have been asked here today."

Welcoming Davina, Claire Macleod, Chair of Governors, said "With the internal refurbishment of classrooms, the programme of transformation of our school facilities is now complete."

She added "In the past few years the roof has been replaced, as have the walls and windows, and we have created a new outdoor play area for the younger children: as well as having new ICT equipment, new children's toilets, a new boiler, a new cycle shed and new playground equipment. The list of change seems almost endless and the school is now utterly unrecognisable from when, in 2003, I first visited as a parent, looking to choose a school for my son.

"I and all the governors and staff really appreciate the 'team effort' that has made the transformation possible - governors planning for the future and bidding for resources, staff and children rising to the challenges, the local authority providing financial support and last, but no means least, our very active Parent Teacher Association providing invaluable fundraising (without which we could not have achieved so much so quickly).

"All the children and staff have been unbelievable in the cheerful manner in which they have responded to having builders on site these past few months, and I'm sure everyone today would agree with me that the results have made it all worthwhile."

Headteacher, Darren Morgan, in thanking Ms McCall said "We are all really proud of our new school facilities - bright, warm and welcoming and 'fit for purpose'. At Lindow, we already achieve many great things for our children. Our new classrooms, our new food Tech room, our new library, the new small teaching spaces, together with the new ICT equipment and the new play facilities, mean that these achievements will be even greater in the future."
