A former farm house which dates back to the 1600's has been destroyed by fire.
Five fire crews battled the major blaze at Brooke House in Handforth, which was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
The detached commercial property was up for sale for £375,000 or available to rent at £15,000 per annum through Williams Commercial, who confirmed today that the property was actually under offer.
Firefighters from Wilmslow were called to the fire on Lower Meadow Road just before 1.30am this morning.
On arrival they discovered that the 1300 sq ft property was well alight and further fire engines were sent to the scene from Poynton, Bollington, Macclesfield and Cheadle.
Firefighters were unable to enter the property because of the extent of the fire which was breaking through the roof, with around 80% of the roof destroyed. Crews began fighting the blaze from outside and the hydraulic platform from Macclesfield was also sent to the scene. Two main jets were used to tackle the flames, with water being sprayed from the hydraulic platform.
The Service is working with the police to establish the cause of the fire at the premises. It has been established that no persons were in the building at the time of the blaze and that there were no injuries.
Crews are continuing to remove roof tiles and damp down the premises using hose reel jets. A building inspector has been in attendance at the scene and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
