A Wilmslow resident who set up the Combined Charities Christmas Shops has started a petition calling for lower postage rates for unsealed mail in December.

Sheila Hallas MBE, who has run the charity card shops for the past 40 years, is asking for the government to re-instate the cheaper rate for a short window to benefit charities at Christmas.

Sheila told wilmslow.co.uk "People are finding the cost of postage stops them sending as many Christmas cards as they would like and charities are feeling the pinch. Times are hard."

Sheila has written to our local MP, Chancellor George Osborne asking for the cheaper postal rate at Christmas time and has set up an e-petition.

She explained "I need 100,000 signatures to trigger a debate in Parliament, which is rather a lot but you have to try."

"I am trying to involve all my 55 charities, plus the website charities and all my friends. I just need the "snowball effect!"
