Wilmslow Town Council has agreed to purchase a Speed Indicator Device (SID) which can be installed around the town to detect and record the speed of approaching vehicles.
They agreed to pay £2650 for the SID which is a portable temporary sign that records average and worst speeds on a particular stretch of road.
Cllr Ruth McNulty, Vice-Chairman of Wilmslow Town Council, said "I came from this from the angle of traffic calming as there are a number of hot spots in Wilmslow. It is bang on our remit to help the community."
Wilmslow Town Council will liaise with Cheshire Police to identify locations and the police will monitor the data and provide the council with results. However, councillors have already identified several main roads as key locations, including Dean Row Road, Macclesfield Road and Adlington Road.
Cllr McNulty's proposal that "we buy one device with two batteries (costing an additional £200) and get it installed by police as soon as possible" was supported unanimously.
The town council agreed to purchase one device this financial year and monitor the effect, with a view to purchasing more SID's next year.
