Following a recent trip to Thailand, the couple behind Chilli Banana are hosting a charity dinner to raise funds for the Thai Flood Relief.

May and Steve Wakefield witnessed the devastation caused by flooding first hand during a recent holiday to visit May's family.

Fortunately the family's home town wasn't badly affected but they spent part of their trip helping the relief effort. For three days Steve helped with sand bags for flood defenses and distributed food, fresh water and medical supplies by boat to communities devastated by flood water.

Upon their return, they decided to organise a Thai Flood Relief Charity Dinner at Chilli Banana, which they founded 15 years ago.

The charity dinner on Monday, 21st November, will include a four course banquet prepared by May and her team. The meal will be donated by the couple, with support from their suppliers and staff who are donating their time free of charge so all the takings from the evening will go to charity.

Steve told me "With about one third of the country affected the scale is enormous. Family life has been turned upside down, as many have lost their homes and possessions, crops have been destroyed and animals have died.

"Lack of clean water and sanitation are major issues as rivers and wells are polluted with sewerage and run off debris. There is a great risk of communicable diseases including diarrhoea, malaria, pneumonia, typhoid and skin infections.

"In addition to this children's education is disrupted as schools are flooded. Businesses are also closed and transport almost impossible, food shortages are rife in the shops and supermarkets that remain open.

"Help us provide shelter for the displaced and distribute essential food and medical supplies through the Dhammakaya Foundation who are working alongside the Thai government."

The Thai Flood Relief Charity Dinner will take place on Monday, 21st November, at 7:30pm for 8:00pm. Tickets cost £35 per person, including a four course banquet meal and a glass of wine.
