You can explore Quarry Bank Mill for free on Saturday as part of Heritage Open Days.
At Quarry Bank visitors can step back in time in the Victorian Apprentice House where the mill's child labourers ate and slept after many hours toiling on the mill floor, watch demonstrations of spinning and weaving or see the huge beam engines in action as they power the mill.
Wander through the mill galleries and learn about the history of this amazing place, or sit in the tranquil Mill Meadow and imagine the hustle and bustle of life here two hundred years ago.
Visitors can then take a stroll into the delightful 18th century Quarry Bank Garden which was created by Samuel Greg, the Mill's founder, for his family and the recently acquired Upper Garden, the Greg family's original kitchen garden, where you can see ongoing restoration work in progress.
Other National Trust places in the North West open for free on Saturday, 10th September include Speke Hall, Liverpool, Little Moreton Hall, Cheshire, Sizergh Castle, Kendal andRufford Old Hall in Lancashire.
