New playgroup for budding rugby players

rugby tots action 2 to 3

A new rugby playgroup for two to five year olds is coming to Wilmslow.

The Rugbytots programme has been designed to develop children's physical and social skills as well as gently encouraging rugby specific skills such as running with the ball, finding space, kicking, catching, scoring a try and much more.

These playgroups started in 2006 and have a number of high profile supporters including Davina McColl, John Inverdale and the England Captain Lewis Moody who said "Rugbytots is fantastic! I would recommend it to those looking to get their child involved in a structured activity which focuses on fun and builds confidence."

All Rugbytots lead coaches are paediatric first aiders, RFU qualified rugby coaches and CRB checked.

The two coaches taking the Wilmslow classes are Roger McLaughlin and Nick Riley who have both played rugby at a high level and have strong coaching backgrounds from senior rugby to tots.

Roger McLaughlin said "We are starting the classes in Wilmslow, following on from the success of the classes in Chorlton. Wilmslow is at the heart of Cheshire, which has a great rugby heritage, so it is the obvious choice for our playgroup. With local clubs including Wilmslow RFC, Manchester RFC and Sale Sharks close by, Wilmslow is an ideal location to find the rugby stars of the future!"

The Rugbytots classes run to the school terms, so the first classes start at Wilmslow Leisure Centre on Sunday 11th September and run until Sunday 23rd October. There are three classes: 9am - Ages 2 to 3.5 years (30 mins), 9.35am - Ages 3.5 to 5 years (45 mins) and 1025am - Ages 2 to 3.5 years (30 mins).

The first session is free and future sessions cost £6 per session, which can be booked on the Rugbytots website. Alternatively you can pay on the day, however it will be on a first come, first served basis.
