Plans are well underway for the annual Wilmslow Street Party which is expected to bring thousands of local residents together for a fun filled Bank Holiday.

Wilmslow resident Khumi Burton, chairman of the Greater Manchester branch of the Royal Society of St George, is organising the family event for the 9th consecutive year - providing the opportunity for young and old to get together for a good old fashioned day out whilst supporting local charities.

Hosted by Imagine FM the crowds will be entertained by performances from Plain Truth Music Club, Alderley & Wilmslow Musical Theatre Company, Dance Fever, accordion player John Jones and swing singer Alan Burton.

About twenty charities will be participating and refreshments will be available from crepe and hot dog stands.

Organiser Khumi Burton said "I have organised this event year after year since 2002 to bring a sense of community, bring footfall into Wilmslow and have a fun day for family, friends and acquaintances.

"Everyone comes together, not necessarily from the area, to enjoy themselves and support the various charities who are participating.

"This year is also a special year for Royal British Legion as it is their 90th year and we have two stalls from Wilmslow and Handforth.

"Come and support and enjoy the day with the entertianment provided."

Last year 3000 people came together for this non-profit event on Grove Street, including special guests Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, David Briggs and our local MP, Chancellor George Osborne. (See photo below).

The Wilmslow Street Party will take place on Monday 29th August from 11am until 4pm on Grove Street.
