Wilmslow gymnastics win host of medals

Young gymnasts from Wilmslow Gymnastics Club entered their first two piece floor and vault competition last weekend.

The Frank Williams Competition 2011, organised by Stockport School of Gymnastics, was their first ever competition and given the girls only train for 1 - 2 hours a week they were delighted to come away with several medals.

The youngest winners were Nicole Reeves, 6, who won Best box top vault and Momo Ito, 6, who won Best dance elements and Best flighted vault.

Tanya King, 8, won bronze for her vault and bronze overall and Amelie McKay, 8, won bronze for her floor routine.

Three nine year olds also collected medals; Lucy Boyle won gold on floor, Gracie Davies won silver for her vault and Shauna Greaves was awarded bronze on floor.

The oldest of the winners was 11 year old Abigail Ormisher who won silver for her floor routine and picked up the bronze overall award.

Other gymnasts taking part were Millie Oakley, Esme Plant, Hannah Grimwood, Tilly Spendlow and Amelia Gent, all of whom were very well placed, some just short of a bronze medal.

Alison Marques said "All our gymnasts did exceptionally well and we are very proud of them. They are an inspiration to the rest of our recreational gymnastics club and something the other gymnasts can aspire to.

"They certainly exceeded our expectations and we were delighted with the results. A big thank you to all the gymnasts, parents and coaches for all their hard work."

All gymnasts were coached by Francesca Marques, Misha Timmins and Daisy Strang at Wilmslow Gymnastics Club, which is run by Alison Marques at Wilmslow Leisure Centre.

From September the club will be introducing it's first pre-school gymnastics club 'Wilmslow Gym 4 Tots' . For information contact Alison Marques 07540 654791.
