Quarry Bank to stage first outdoor production

A testing time for Mr Darcy and Miss Elizabeth Bennett - join Heartbreak Theatre for 'Pride & Prejudice' at Quarry Bank Mill

The elegant surroundings of the Quarry Bank Garden will be the setting for an outdoor theatre performance of Jane Austen's classic tale, 'Pride and Prejudice'.

Set in the rural village of Meryton, it is the story of five sisters and their exploits to find love. From the sweet and good natured eldest daughter Jane, down to the coquettish and petulant Lydia, the whole spectrum of women's behaviour is examined in minute detail with Jane Austen's delicate, yet intense observation.

Performed by Heartbreak Theatre, this fresh and contemporary adaptation from its writer in residence, David Kerby Kendall, will highlight the wit, fun and absurdities of the characters, intermingled with period dance, music and song.

Ros Stone, Visitor Experience Manager at Quarry Bank says: "This is the first time we've held outdoor theatre in the garden. It will take place on what was once the old tennis court, which is a natural amphitheatre and very suitable for this kind of event. Using the garden as a backdrop will be very atmospheric – so we're looking forward to a great evening. We're also keeping the shop open until 7pm on the night which will be selling Jane Austen themed products as well as picnic rugs, gifts and sweets."

Tickets for the performance of Pride & Prejudice' on Sunday 24th July are £15 for adults and £9 per child. The production is suitable for children aged 7 years and over.

Gates open 6pm for picnics, with the performance commencing at 7pm. Please bring your own seating, picnic rugs or low-backed chairs, and a picnic. Booking is essential on 01625 445845.
