It's time to take the Summer Reading Challenge

Summer reading challenge

The Summer Reading Challenge starts on Saturday, July 9th, and this year's theme is 'Circus stars'.

This free summer-long event calls on children aged four to 12 to read at least six books from their local library - with the aim of encouraging young children to develop a lifelong love of reading, regardless of their ability.

Wilmslow Library will host activities linked to the challenge throughout the summer and staff will be on hand at the library to talk to children about what they have enjoyed reading and what they would like to choose to read next.

Activities include circus storytime with balloon twisting and juggling, circus crafts and a circus performance providing the opportunity to try out circus skills with mayhem juggling.

The Summer Reading Challenge will be launched, in all Cheshire East libraries, on Saturday, July 9th and children have until September 9th to complete the challenge. Those who complete the challenge will be given a certificate and medal at a special presentation in September.

Cheshire East Councillor David Brown, Cabinet member with responsibility for performance and capacity: "Once again, this popular event is aiming to introduce the world of reading to thousands of children across Cheshire East. The Summer Reading Challenge is about making reading fun and learning along the way.

"All books count towards the challenge – fiction, non-fiction, joke books, picture books and even audio books. I wish all the children taking part the best of luck in their challenge."

Children who wish to take part can join the Summer Reading Challenge at Wilmslow library.

All activities are listed in our events calendar and if you need any information about any of the events planned call Wilmslow library on 01625 374060 if you need any information about any of the events planned.
