A man from Wilmslow has been remanded in custody following his appearance at Knutsford Crown Court today, Tuesday 15th March.
Andrew James Speakman, 44, of Beech Lane has been charged with making an explosive for an unlawful purpose.
His application for bail was denied and he is due to appear at Macclesfield Magistrates Court on Wednesday 23rd March.
According to a court spokesperson, the case is expected to be referred to Crown Court for committal. Magistrates court can try only relatively minor offences and impose limited sentences therefore more serious offences are referred to Crown Court where they will be tried by judge and jury.
Police were called to the house on Beech Lane at 9.31pm on Thursday, 9th March, after local residents reported hearing an explosion.
As a precautionary measure 30 occupants from the adjoining houses were evacuated to Wilmslow Leisure Centre while a full search of the premises was carried out, during which a small quantity of chemicals were found.
A 28-year-old man, who was also arrested at the scene, has been bailed pending further inquiries.
The explosion blew a hole in the garden fence but did not cause any significant damage to the property in Beech Lane, or to any of the adjoining premises.
