A man from Wilmslow has been charged with making an explosive for an unlawful purpose.
Andrew James Speakman, 44, of Beech Lane has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Magistrates at Knutsford Crown Court tomorrow, Monday 14th March.
Police were called to a house on Beech Lane at 9.31pm on Thursday, 9th March, where residents reported hearing an explosion.
As a precautionary measure the occupants of 12 adjoining houses were evacuated to Wilmslow Leisure Centre while a full search of the premises was carried out, during which a small quantity of chemicals were found.
A 28-year-old man, who was also arrested at the scene, has been bailed pending further inquiries.
Stuart Carlon, who lives next door, was at home with his girlfriend when the explosion occurred.
Speaking to wilmslow.co.uk on Friday, 10th March, he said "There was a really loud bang which shook the house at about 9.20pm.
"It was a really obvious explosion, I've never heard anything like it. It blew a hole in the fence."
Speaking about his neighbour, Stuart added "I didn't really know him.
"We have the same landlady but I haven't really spoken to him. He was a very quiet man."
A police spokesperson said "The explosion did not cause any significant damage to the property in Beech Lane, or to any adjoining premises."
Update: Following his appearance at Knutsford Crown Court this morning, Monday 14th March, Andrew James Speakman has been remanded overnight and will appear back in court tomorrow, when he is expected to make an application for bail.
