Ryder Cup hero Colin Montgomerie made a visit to Wilmslow Golf Club on Tuesday, 1st March.

He was there to catch up with old friend Matthew Gillingham, who moved from The Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland to The Wilmslow Golf Club in November 2010 to take up the position of Head Golf Professional.

In addition to providing golf tuition, Matthew has spent the last couple of months developing the products and services available at Wilmslow, including stocking a refurbished shop with the latest golfing equipment and attire, as well as introducing custom fitting and club repairs.

With the refurbishment of the shop completed in February, Colin Montgomerie visited Wilmslow to declare the shop officially open for business.

"What Matthew has done here at Wilmslow is fantastic and I must say what a lovely atmosphere there is at the golf club" commented Montgomerie.

He added "The course looks in terrific condition, you can see the hard work the green staff have put in through the winter is really paying dividends."

Montgomerie vowed to return to the club for a 'friendly 4-ball' in the near future.

Matthew Gillingham said "It was great for Colin to pop in today and officially open us for business, the shop has transformed in the last few months and having Colin and his family here on such a gorgeous afternoon to cut the tape is a day the club will always remember."
